S*M*A*S*H played the above last night alongside Buzzcocks, Selecter and the Jamm.
I'll come on to the gig in a bit but first I have to mention a class performer who was in attendance and if you were there you could not fail to have missed this guy.
This is the preamble.... Me and me friends Clare and George were waiting outside the venue before the doors opened and I clocked this geezer wearing black/white brogues and a Carnaby Street suit. I wondered whether he was two tone or a Jam fan.
I did not have long before I got an answer to my curiosity as within moments I was being greeted by the guy as he said to me 'Everyone knows me and everyone knows me as Nobby. You'll never meet a bigger Jam fan than me.'
Nobby explained that he had seen the Jam 50 times etc etc.
Anyway a little later we were in the student union bar waiting for the performance and there was a little debate as to whether the Jamm were on first as billed on the ticket, or not.
I had a look on stage and saw a Les Paul and a Telecaster along with a Fender P-bass. When I returned to the bar I commented that the Jamm were unlikely to be on first as the Jamm play Rickenbackers. Unbeknown to me Nobby had overheard my observation and was over like a shot. He recounted his tale of being the Jam's number one fan etc etc (again)
