christ, is it actually 4am? I got sucked into the new novel Goodnight Steve McQueen by first time author Louise Wener, formerly lead temptress^Wsongstress for britpop band Sleeper, who I *adore*. Is it sad to say that? Probably. Do I care? Not much. I was really into them while I was at uni, bought all their albums, and some singles, and then they went into hibernation. Rediscovered Louise in an Observer article a few weeks ago, where she proudly said "fuck the music industry", basically. Sleeper broke up a while ago, it seems - how the fuck did I miss that?! Anyway, the book is somehow a britromcom about a guy bizarrely monikered Steve McQueen, and his problems being in a band (natch), trying to snag a record deal, dealing with his girlfriend, etc, etc. Lots of gratuitous "this is in the UK" stuff by mentioning Pot Noodles, the BBC, and Marks & Spencer's ... sometimes that just gets on my nerves, but I acclimatised to it pretty quickly this time. Good read.

Oh and she was only in bloody Border's in bloody Buchanan Street last bloody Thursday for a fucking book signing ...
