Whatever the case, these early singles knocked over the charts like bowling pins in the middle of the brief "New Wave of the New Wave" days (how soon so many have forgotten Elastica, These Animal Men, S*M*A*S*H, Sleeper, Echobelly, etc; perhaps only Gene has lasted as long as Ash) and those hits led to a shocking #1 LP while the band were still just barely out of high school. If this was ol' Blight's idea of "teen pop", it was one hell of a cry from the Britneys and Christinas we'd soon foster here.
