"just wanted you to know that the sleeper cd's arrived safe and sound
today...boy was i surprised and pleased....you've done a great job with them and like i say it's cool of you to only charge 10 bucks apiece...i'm
anxiously awaiting volume 3 in this series... i did want to ask you about your printer and paper..."
"I'm curious what sort of printer are you using, because quite frankly the CD artwork are amazing!"
"are you going to be doing more sleeper cds after the 3 cd? im interested in more live stuff."
From Vu:
I'm using a Canon BJC-4300. The setting I have is "Glossy Paper" and "Photo Color" and the ink is Canon Color BJ Cartidge BC-22e Photo. The ink gives off a nice realistic photo image when used with
photo glossy paper. Unfortunately the more realistic and vibrant you
want your images to be printed, the more expensive it gets. Again, a quick run down on the actual cost (does not include tax):
Canon Color BJ Cartidge BC-22e Photo - $50 (prints about 20-25 sheets before running out of a particular ink.)
Glossy Paper - $15 (20 sheets)
Glossy CD-Label - $20 (20 cd-labels/10 sheets)
I've done some calculations and it broke down to this: $97 for material (includes 20 blank CDs, shipping material, all above printing material, $0.07 taxes, etc.) for about 10 people (ink runs out after 20-25 prints so we have to switch labels for glossy paper, so the original $112 pricing minus $15 for labels). If I break this down right, CD cost is $9.70! So to be fair to myself I am going to STOP TAKING ORDERS for $10!! Those fortunately enough to have sent in money or reserve a copy via email, this does not apply to you. I'm sorry to announce that any future printed CDs will cost you $12 per CD (pretty high-priced, but there is an alternative - see below). Again, I apologized for the original pricing, I hope you understand that I'm just trying to break even.
Some preliminary ideas: 1. There will be two different version of the 3rd CD, a deluxe version and a stripped version. The Deluxe version comes with printed artwork and probably numbered. The stripped version is just the burnt CD-R. Tracklisting and artwork will be available for download so you can print your own, in high 600 dpi image format or Memorex label format. Cost for stripped CD will be $5. Since none of the printing cost applies - you're only paying for the collected music, CD-R, and postage packaging. There isn't a high demand for the 3rd CD, so I don't think it would be much of a problem. 2. Regarding future Sleeper bootlegs, I'm really interested in transfering my three Black Sessions to CD format. They're second generation of FM Radio broadcasts from France, so it's almost soundboard quality. They are all live, and the first includes Sleeper cover of the Cure's "Inbetween Days". If you're curious to which songs were done live, check out Tape Bootlegs.
To summarise, you can buy the Smart Collection and The It Girl Collection both stripped down version for $10 in total (plus shipping). I will make the download available if I get anyone interested in the cheaper versions. Again, I apologized for the change in pricing.
