1. Pick up a coin for luck - IF it's lying heads up
2. Meeting a magpie - Actions to avert evil : It is proper to make a bow whenever a single magpie is seen : Speaking and bowing to magpies is quite a coomon thing;
3. If a pregnant lady sees a hare she must tear her dress and turn in her journey.
4. (1851) A hare in the street means fire is imminent.
5.(1850) It is believed to be a sign of bad luck to meet a white horse unless the person spits at it.
6. (1787) It is unlucky to walk under a ladder
7. (1853) A wedding cake on a plate : Flying from a window at the second story....If it reaches the ground in safety without being broken, the omen is a most unfavourable one. If...the plate be shattered to pieces...the auspices are looked upon as most happy.
8. (1915) Don't pick up cut flowers you find lying in the road "Pick up flowers, pick up illness)
9. (1925) Dropping a glove. It is lucky for the owner if you pick up an old glove you find in the road. (Hence why all those grannies do it in England ;).. )
10. (1922) If you see a lizard in the road, you will have bad luck.
11. (1883) It is unlucky to open an umbrella in the house (It becomes a sign of death)
12. (1858) To spill (new) milk is a sign of certain misfortunes.
13. A black cat springing across your path is an unlucky omen.
14. (1869) Should you meet a woman with bare feet and red hair fall back in haste lest some evil thing come upon you.
15. (1883) To combat bad luck, stand before a looking glass combing your hair with one hand eating a apple held in the other.
16. (1954) It is supposed to be unlucky for two people to look through the same mirror at the same time.
17. (1777) The breaking of a looking glass is accounted to be very unlucky incident
18. Picture taking is very bad luck...(1879) I know of several persons who refuse to have their likeness taken lest it prove unlucky and several friends have never had a days health after being photographed - It is bad luck to have your photograph taken! (Mmm, maybe someone should've told Di - Ouch !!)
19. (1908) Having seen an ambulance in the street you must hold your breath and pinch your nose, touch your toes and hold your collar until you see a four legged animal.
20. (1923) Dalmation dog "To meet the spotted carriage dog in the street is luck (You wich will be fulfilled).
21. If a gentleman's petals from the rose in his buttonhole fall he must place his hat over them and jump twice over this before he can carry on his way.
22. To see a load of hay being carried is bad luck, you must make the signs of the devil with your fore and little finger or touch leather to dispel the evil.
