MegaCon in Orlando has become one of the country's fastest growing comic book conventions. No longer affiliated with the now defunct Cross-Gen Comics company, MegaCon attracts a wide range of comic book pros and fans, as well as plenty of media stars, anime devotees, and more.
OK, I'll admit it... February winters are a pretty good reason to get away to Florida, and while the weather of Orlando was a little rainy and cool, the chance to meet some of my favorite creators for the first time and catch up with some "I knew when" was equally compelling. I knew I'd enjoy chatting with George Perez who I know I would love to have a whole show on. I got to see the work of some up-and-comers, including those getting their feet wet online, and while their shots aren't included on this page, they do get a chance to show their stuff off in this episode.

George discusses his lengthy career Comic book pro George Perez is featured in this clip from "Giant Size Comic Book Show," taped at Orlando's MegaCon in 2005. George discusses his lengthy career, going back to Man-Wolf and Sons of the Tiger to his better known work on the Avengers, the Fantastic Four, Justice League, the revived Teen Titans, Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the relaunch of Wonder Woman. The "top secret" project he mentions, working with Phil Jimenez and Jose Garcia-Lopez, was the most recent "Who Is Donna Troy?" mini-series, which he could not name at the time of this taping.
Megacon is this wonderful blend of anime and comics, which is why it's one of my favorite shows. There really aren't many comic conventions that have a large selection of anime vendors as well as comic vendors. I usually end up spoiling myself on anime figures and CDs because they're so much cheaper then you can ever find them at an anime convention. The theme of the convention for me was fuzzy pink cat ears. I took pictures of just about every professional I could find wearing them. It's amazing how easy it is to get grown men to put on fuzzy pink ears and let me take their picture. My favorite was George Perez. He's so cute in fuzzy ears.
There are always a lot of amazing costumes and enthusiastic fans at Megacon, something I really enjoy about the show. It's a three day convention and there are plenty of things to do and see to keep you busy the entire time. If you see everything you want to on the show floor, there are plenty of panels and anime screenings to keep you entertained for the rest of the day. On the floor there are always a wide selection of vendors and a diverse group of comic book professionals and media stars to interact with.
Some website updates: Since I had to disable the tracker (Nedstat) because of some popup advertisements that were affecting users (November 29, 2005), I have added a new tracker tool since December 2nd. If you notice any problems (like advertisements?) please let me know. Please check out www.statsrely.com. They are the coolest tracker I've used so far.
As you know, lately I have not been home or had the time to update the website. You have to understand that this website is still hand-coded and made of love. It's still run by one person (me), for the past seven years, and I'm surprise I still have the drive and the passion for it.
Many thanks to all the contributors through the years.

The artist who drew the defintive Beast. The artist who can put more expression into one characters eye than most can put on a page. The artist who made a grown up Robin (and then Nightwing) the sexiest thing in spandex history. The artist, the man,the master; Mr George Perez!
And thank you to Vu for the terrific website too,of course

Been a fan since the Avengers in the 160's. Can't wait for monthly Perez magic again!!
Around the ACTOR booth I ran into George Perez and tried to line up a before-the-con sketch for Pittsburgh in April but I got beat out already by a few other guys. I will have to try and hit his line early when I go. Since I was there I shook Marv Wolfman's hand and let him know how much I appreciated his work. Dick Giordano was also there so I snapped a quick shot of him.
George Perez told The Continuum he is working with Phil Jimenez and Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on what he calls "The EZ Project," a soon-to-be-announced project from DC Comics.
"I'm having the time of my life inking the incredible Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez," Perez told The Continuum at last weekend's MegaCon. "Phil is writing and drawing the covers, so I get to ink him, too."
The "EZ" is a reference to the last two letters in each of the creators' names. It has been rumored that the project involves Donna Troy.
Perez is drawing a new cover to a Marvel Visionaires featuring his run on Fantastic Four. He's also doing three pages for a 10th anniversary edition of Witchblade and some City of Heroes covers for Top Cow Productions.
Perez said he will be concentrating on his New Teen Titans graphic novel with Marv Wolfman in May.
"I've got learn to say no. I'm getting so many great offers," Perez said. "I'm proud to say that after 30 years in the business, I'm still kind of the pretty girl at the dance."

Hi everyone had a good time at the show, it was in a smaller room, than last year, but that was ok. My sales were down from the two previous years, but that's ok, I had a lot of fun and met a lot of cool people. Look for ad in Roy Thomas' ALTER EGO magazine real soon. George was busy as ever. I got pictures with him and Marv, look for them probably in this next issue. I also got some never published art from George too, and look for them in the next issue of PACESETTER. I was also filmed for the Modern Masters DVD, so if I don't get cut out, you may see me in the DVD. All an all a fun show.

It was good to see you again, Tony, and thanks for helping out with the DVD. Between the footage shot in George's studio and what was shot at the convention, we've got about 16 hours of footage to work with. I'm not sure how long the final product will be, but it'll probably run about 2 hours or so, plus whatever extras we decide on. I agree with you that it was a pretty fun show.

I am currently inking the incredible Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on a project written by Phil Jimenez, who is also the cover penciler, with me inking Phil. Unfortunately, beyond that, I'm not at liberty to reveal what the project is so I've been calling it "The EZ Company Project" since all three creators share the same last two letters in our family names. DC Comics should be making an announcement relatively soon and it will be a relief to finally be able to talk about it openly.
Contrary to solicitations I have indeed drawn the cover for FALLEN ANGELS #20. Due to a mix-up in the scheduling it initially appeared that I couldn't do the cover, so the regular team was told to go ahead and draw the cover. When Peter David found out about that he reminded the editor that the deadlines had been pushed back and even though the book had been solicited with another cover, Peter figured few would be bummed out to find that there was a Pérez cover after all.
I have also drawn a cover for a Marvel Visionaries book spotlighting my 1970's run on FANTASTIC FOUR. Tom Smith colored that piece and, as usual, did a wonderful job.
I am currently drawing a variant cover for Top Cow's CITY OF HEROES #1 and will be drawing the cover for a CITY OF HEROES novel called "Web of Arachnos". This should be the first of three covers for a series of CoH novels. And since I just mentioned Top Cow, I should also announce that I will be participating in a special 10th Anniversary edition of WITCHBLADE. I will be drawing three pages written by Ron Marz. And as I draw those pages I will be filmed by a video crew for TwoMorrows' DVD companion to its MODERN MASTERS book series.
There have been other offers, including some covers for Dynamic Forces' RED SONYA and ARMY OF DARKNESS. I also will be providing a cover for DF's STORYTELLER, yet another retrospective on my career. (I am definitely being over-exposed). A cover for ForceWerks' B.A.B.E. FORCE is also on my schedule. There have been other one-shots I've been offered that I'm not yet free to discuss, or yet to accept, but after "The EZ Company Project" I will be primarily focusing my attention on completing GAMES: THE TITANS GRAPHIC NOVEL. Inker Mike Perkins has already started on some pages and Tom Smith has 30 pages ready to start so it's up to me to get busy so that Marv Wolfman can start dialoguing the first half of the book.
I hope there will be lots of George Pérez fans in attendance at this month's MegaCon. We will be there shooting footage for a DVD companion to
Modern Masters Vol. 2: George Pérez. I was hoping to get a Q&A panel where we would have audience participation, but alas, things came together a bit too late to get one on the schedule. But if you come by Friday or Saturday to get a sketch and/or autograph from George, there's a good chance you could end up on the DVD. Be warned! You may be quizzed!
Anyway, I just wanted to announce that I have two more convention appearances this year, so if any of you are going to Wizard World Los Angeles or Crescent City Con in New Orleans, please look me up. Next up, of course, is Megacon in Orlando, Florida. I'm looking forward to seeing everyone there, especially my old pals, Gene Colan and George Pérez. Also looking forward to getting together with an even older friend, Roy Thomas who I haven't seen in years - we totally missed each other at San Diego last year (hard to imagine not finding someone in a crowd of a hundred thousand people) and it was Roy's first trip out here in ages.
