Auctions: MARVEL 'HEROES' AUCTION EVENT RAISES MORE THAN $66,750 FOR WORLD
TRADE CENTER BENEFIT
With Kevin Smith as auctioneer, a Jan. 17 sale of 20 pieces of art from
Marvel Comics' Heroes tribute comic-book magazine raised $66,750 to benefit
the World Trade Center Fund. The event included a full dinner as well as a
live auction, held by All Star Auctions, and attendees included members of
the New York Fire Department, New York Police Department, New York Emergency
Medical Services, and New York Port Authority as well as such comics
professionals as Neal Adams, Chris Claremont, Adam Kubert, Tom Palmer, and
Marvel Editor in Chief Joe Quesada. In addition to the auction total were
admission fees ($250 per attendee) and silent auctions.

20 paintings and illustrations were auctioned, raising a staggering
$66,750.00! Considering that the estimated bids would total a little over
$20,000.00, this final amount raised was indeed impressive. The highest bid
went to Alex Ross's HEROES cover painting -- which raised $10,000.00 alone
-- followed by a $7,000.00 winning bid for the HEROES back cover
illustration by Marvel Editor In Chief Joe Quesada and Todd McFarlane --
purchased by Joe's wife, Nanci Quesada! The icing on the cake? Kevin Smith
outbid himself to purchase a painting by Brian Stelfreeze!

Marvel Comics is helping take Heroes one step further.
Marvel has already sold over 300,000 copies of Heroes, the tribute book benefiting the Twin Towers Fund in the wake of Sept. 11's terrorist attacks. Now, Marvel is putting much of the original art from that book up for auction.
Club 101, located at 101 Park Ave. in New York City, will play host to an auction on Thursday, Jan. 17 at 6 PM. Live attendees of the auction will be charged a $250 donation to the Twin Towers Fund, and the auction will be run simultaneously by All-Star Auctions at www.allstarauc.com. Kevin Smith will serve as live auctioneer.
Art from Neal Adams, J.
