My family spent the week before Pittsburgh Comicon 2007 in the New Jersey/Philadelphia area. Besides seeing sites from the Rocky movies and eating cheese steaks, my sister Peri Toth and I began learning wet on wet oil painting techniques from Bill Alexander certified instructor Jack Kolber and his wife Fran Kolber. It was a blast! I already knew some of the brush strokes but Mr. Kolber helped me learn a bunch more. I clicked with him real well. Sometimes, I would even finish his sentences. I have watched all of his Magic Brush Art with Jack Kolber TV shows on DVD and I can't wait for them to be on PBS! You can see more of this adventure including pictures on his website at: www.magicbrushart.com

Also, this con was the last appearance of my adopted Uncle George Pérez until 2009! As usual, he again helped raise thousands of dollars for Make-A-Wish. His artwork for this year's T-Shirt brought in the most money at the charity art auction.

He and his wife Carol Flynn celebrated their 25th wedding anniversary in 2006 and I drew them a New Teen Titans #8 cover tribute – the issue he was working on when he had his first date with her. They own the original pencil and ink artwork, original color artwork, and 23 of the 25 signed and numbered prints that I also made for them. I own print #14, which is personalized to me, and I will not part with it! Print #13 sold for $210.00 at the auction and was also signed by my Uncle George. And I brought new drawings of Starfire, Raven and Wonder Girl [Donna Troy] for him as well.

After that, our family brought some pizzas up to Uncle George's penthouse suite and we talked about how he and I are going to make comic books together someday – for real! He said that if he'd ink my artwork, he would draw a thinner line than I draw right now. I told him that I would like to draw Amethyst, Princess of Gemworld with creator/writer Dan Mishkin, along with The New Teen Titans. And I also asked him 100 fun, non-comic book questions for everyone to enjoy until he returns to conventions in 2009. Check out my Uncle George Pérez on the net at: www.george-perez.com
