SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON 2006 (July 20-23, 2006)
There were two rooms filled to capacity for the Mark Evanier hosted panel, The Art of Cover. Basil Gogos, George Perez, Neal Adams, Adam Hughes, Brian Boland, Joe Jusko, and DC editor Mark Chiarello were on the panel to chat comics and covers. Also confirmed in this panel was that Adam Hughes was working on the All Star Wonder Woman series.

QUESTION: Evanier: What makes a great cover and which artist inspired them you get into the artistic business?
GEORGE PEREZ: He stated that that is an easy question to answer since he usually draws both the cover and interior art. He stated that he doesn't like the practice of one artist drawing the cover and another artist drawing the interior art of a comic. He felt that that was cheating the buyer. He stated that he personally likes the challenge of trying to make a new cover each month. He also stated that he loves Rockwell, Salvador Dali, Jack Kirby, Neal Adams, John Buscema and many more. He stated that word balloons are OK to use but only sparingly.

Mark than asked George if he planned the cover before or after planning the interior art?

GEORGE PEREZ: He joked about how it depended on how late he was in drawing the comic itself.
