"Crisis" would wipe out all those alternate realities and simplify the DC Universe down to one manageable version of Earth. In the process, dozens of heroes would die, and we're not talking just the second-tier characters. Big-time heroes like Supergirl and the Flash both fell prey to the "Crisis."
The new Absolute Edition commemorates the 20th anniversary of the original maxi-series. This pricey edition features the full 12-issue series, introduction by the series' author, Marv Wolfman, and bios for all the creators involved. Legendary artist George Perez provides new art for the dust jacket of the 368-page Book One. Book Two is a 96-page companion text featuring DVD-style extras like behind-the-scenes material and commentary, plus another new cover by Perez.
At $99.99, this hefty hardcover is probably not for the casual comics fan, but the hard-core geek on your Christmas list would most likely be delighted to find one under the tree. "Crisis on Infinite Earths: The Absolute Edition" is available Wednesday.
