EVEN MORE FUND COMICS: One-hundred and ninety-two pages, over seventy creators, and only ten bucks ... which goes to the Comic Book Legal Defense Fund. What man could conjure such a spell? Who is the man behind the curtain? It's none other than BUZZBOY creator and Sky-Dog Publishing's head honcho John Gallagher, who emerged from his post-traumatic stress to answer a few questions about this year's latest anthology.
THE PULSE: You seem to have, perhaps accidentally, fashioned an empire of sorts, John. MORE FUND COMICS and now EVEN MORE FUND COMICS. What was your initial thinking and purpose in beginning even the first project?
JOHN GALLAGHER: The idea for the book started when I was having dinner with Baltimore Comic-Con organizer Marc Nathan, artist Frank Cho, and a few friends from Diamond Comics Distributors. I had had some success in creating "custom comics" for corporations, and was pitching Marc on the idea of doing one for the Con, as a freebie. I just wanted to promote the local comics creators, like myself, Mark Wheatley, Cho ... Marc and Frank said I was thinking too small, make it an all-star sort of thing, and for the Fund... Things took off from there, with Frank corralling talent, Marc promoting it through the show (and snagging George Perez to do the cover), and me, I got to do the design, editing, and, sigh, publishing.
