george-perez.com: the Early Years

As many of you know, my background in websites are purely from music, which is my first love. I started my Sleeper website in Sep 1996. I am still very proud of this website.

I had already three other music websites (Morrissey and S*M*A*S*H and Stretch Princess) before I decided to do a website on George Perez. I already had a base set up on my computer, and scanning images for my own personal use. I wanted a nice database that I could easily access any artwork and information to comics I had owned that contained Perez's artwork.

1998 was a fun time, Xoom was offering free unlimited webhosting, I thought I could put up a little website on Pérez. I would've been just content with a Perez checklist (with cover art) and some random news I would collect over the internet. It was never meant to be a massive website like it is now. Also, there really WOULDN'T be this George Pérez website if there were already a good site on his works online (but at the time there weren't any sites devoted to this wonderful artist - which is a bit surprising).

By April 1999, I started getting emails from people. Notably, Andy Mangels, who was my first super star visitor. At the time I remember him from Wizard Magazine (Hollywood Mangels) and from Amazing Heroes.

As soon as I realized that people were actually visiting, I really started concentrating more on the website. You can tell this from 2000's logs.

There are some of you who have been here from the beginning, and some who came and went (where are you now?). I am always pleased to hear from random fans who said that my website is the first thing that they load up when they get on the web.

So anyway, thank you for visiting, reading and writing over the years. I look forward to another 100,000 hits, so keep contributing, keep writing, and keep me updated (so I can keep the rest of the world updated as well).

(Thanks to ES for mentioning I should write something for this special occasion.)
