December 14, 2001 | Swordquest Airworld
From George Pérez and Scott Stilphen, via Pérez Yahoo Club
Scott Stilphen asks: AFAIK, only the first 3 comics (Earthworld, Fireworld, and Waterworld) of a 4-part series were ever released. Was any work started on the 4th? There are rumors that the story was written, and that it was even drawn (but not inked). Other people have tried contacting DC, but their archives are in some disarray and no one there seems very willing to search through it.

George Pérez: Hi:
No, there was no "Airworld" story ever written or drawn. The whole SWORDQUEST project was terminated by Atari before we could even start on the art. Roy Thomas and Gerry Conway may have worked out some sort of plot synopsis dealing in the generalities of that final chapter for Atari approval, but it never got to plot form. As it was the third book "Waterworld" was released without a game cartridge, although I'm not sure how.

Take care,
GPz

Scott Stilphen: Thanks for taking the time to reply to me about this. Thanks for putting these rumors to rest

The game was produced, albeit in limited quantities (I have a copy myself). Here is the entry for it at AtariAge, which has pictures and screenshots: Atari Age.
As far as I know, it was never released w/o the game. I also have an article online about the Swordquest contest, on the 2600 Connection site, at: 2600 Connection: Swordquest Revisited
