JLA/AVENGERS
George Perez insisted on one clause in his new deal with CrossGen: If the most anticipated team crossover in comics history, JLA vs. Avengers, came about, he would be able to do it.

Looks like Perez will be needing that out clause.

Upon taking over as Marvel Editor-in-Chief, Joe Quesada made this one of his top priorities, pitting Marvel's top superteams against DC's powerhouses. The project began nearly 20 years ago as Marvel and DC agreed in principle to the crossover with Perez drawing 20 pages before the deal fell apart. Those pages, which were later purchased by Rob Liefeld, reportedly will not be part of the new crossover. And don't just expect a one-shot; insiders say this project could be four issues and might expand to six. What you can counting on seeing is Perez amazing team skills featuring everyone from Thor, Superman, Cap, Batman and Iron Man in one action-packed story.

PROGNOSIS News on this project getting the official green light should come very soon. However, don't expect to see it this year. "You won't see it before the end of 2001," says Carlin. "George is a steady artist but this project would have a million characters in it. Give the guy a break." We'll give Perez a break, but we'll still be excited.

WIZARD OFFERS JLA/AVENGERS TIDBITS
Wednesday, February 28th, 2001

Wizard Magazine is the latest source to weigh in on the JLA/Avengers front. In their new issue, #115, in stores today, the magazine reports that it looks like George Perez will be exercising the well-publicized clause in this exclusive CrossGen contract allowing him to do the long-awaited project.

According to the magazine, Joe Quesada made the long-awaited project a top priority when he took over as Marvel editor-in-chief, and cites "insiders" who say that the project could be four to six issue series, but that the infamous 21 pages of JLA/Avengers artwork created 20 years ago by Perez and now owned by Rob Liefeld will reportedly NOT be used in this new project.

Describing the "prognosis" of project coming together, Wizard reports news of this getting the official green light should be coming very soon, which supports theories that the announcement will be made at this weekend`s MegaCon in Orlando, but DC Executive Editor Mike Carlin is quoted as saying the project wouldn’t be seen until next year.

"You won`t see it before the end of 2001," says Carlin. "George is a steady artist but this project would have a million characters in it. Give the guy a break."
