JLA/AVENGERS TO BE ANNOUNCED AT MEGACON??
Sunday, February 18th 2001

A few weeks ago Newsarama reported rumors that George Perez was in discussions with Marvel and DC to finally make the long-anticipated Avengers/JLA crossover happen, and it's beginning to look like we may be seeing an official announcement soon.

In two weeks, Megacon 2001 kicks off in Orlando, FL (hometown of Perez btw), and an online programming note may have tipped the hand of what would be one of comics' bigger announcements.

Currently, the Megacon programming site lists a Friday afternoon (03/02) panel described by Megacon as "Marvel - DC Mega Announcement", with the added programming note, "Get there early for the announcement you have all been waiting for."

But it also appears earlier Friday afternoon, the Megacon folks were even a little more forthcoming in their information, with programming notes that have since been removed and replaced with the current version. According to folks who saw it, the programming note promised appearances by Kurt Busiek, George Perez, Tom Breevort, and Dan Raspler (Avengers and JLA editor, respectively) in a Q&A about two teams finally meeting.

Friday evening, Marvel's Joe Quesada declined to comment on the Megacon programming information and apparent changes during the day.

On an interesting side note, in an interview published today here at Newsarama, writer Mark Waid told us IF the project were to happen, he would not be involved.
