COULD IT BE? AFTER ALL THESE YEARS??
02.02.2001

We normally don’t lead the column off with a rumor, but in this case we are making the exception that proves the rule…

A few weeks back, buoyed by CrossGen Comics and George Perez announcement of a clause in his new, permanent, exclusive contract with the Tampa-based publisher releasing him to do the always highly-anticipated, but so-far mythical JLA/Avengers crossover, Newsarama ran two consecutive reader polls that gave a pretty look into the minds of fandom on the possibility.

In our first poll, 62% of 1000 respondents agreed that since the clause existed, Marvel and DC should find a way to get the project done asap. The next week, in a poll asking "What`s the Best Present You Could Receive NEXT Holiday Season?", out of the eight choices – including a Todd McFarlane Spawn/Spider-Man crossover and ‘Peace on Earth and Good Will Toward Men’, 34% of over 1100 respondents said JLA/Avengers by George Perez…

If you’re beginning to suspect where we are going with this, you suspect right… Though this subject area as been fraught with rumors, speculation and wishful thinking for years, and while it appears no formal agreement has yet been reached as of this moment, there are reports that DC, Marvel and George Perez are currently actively pursuing making this project a reality.

Neither publisher chose to comment on this report. Stay tuned…
