WESTWIND BY BUSIEK AND PEREZ

Kurt Busiek is re-teaming with former Avengers artist George Perez on Westwind, which debuts as a five-page story in Section Zero #6 from Gorilla Comics.

Here's how Busiek describes Westwind:

"Westwind is a new project, created by me and George Perez. It's the story of Nicholas West, a young, successful corporate attorney. Nick is a rainmaker; a lawyer with the magic touch that brings in clients, brings in business -- makes it rain money. He likes things clean, orderly, logical and under control. And when you've got the kind of magic he has, you get what you want. He wears the finest clothes, drives the best cars, dates heart-stoppingly gorgeous women, has a condo in the city and a lush home in the Marin hills for weekends. He likes air conditioning better than breezes, lawns better than fields and cities better than wilderness. His world is man-made and he likes it that way.

"But Nicholas West is also the seventh son of a seventh son, and was born under a caul. And that links him to older, wilder ways. He's a rainmaker in a magical sense, too -- he can bring down the rain, talk to the lightning and ride the four winds. He has a magic side, connected to the illogical, emotional, uncontrollable things in life -- everything he's ever wanted to avoid. And now that he's come into his powers, all the magical creatures around him stop hiding from him, the way they hide from the rest of the mundane world.

"Nick's world just changed -- whether he likes it or not.

"But Nick, for all that he's shallow and self-centered, isn't a quitter. He may be in a whole new world, one with rules he doesn't understand and things he doesn't want to believe in -- but Nick likes to be a success. In any world. By any rules. So now Nick's got a whole new ladder to climb -- and a lot to learn, about his world and about himself, along the way.

"The story in Section Zero #6 is a teaser, more than anything else -- it's a complete story, but in 5 pages, we don't have much room to take more than a quick look at Nick and his world. But I hope people will like what they see."

The story is inked by Karl Kesel and colored by Tom Smith.
