Fanboy AKA Eric: George, can you confirm that yourself or Kurt or Tom are going to appear in the pages?
George Perez: Oh at this point, ah, I have no real intention of putting Kurt, Tom or Me in the story. I am putting a couple of friends in who have asked. One person wanted to be specifically in a page with BATMAN, ah, appears so I put him in there.
One person who helps my art agent would like his children to appear there so I'll probably sneak the kids in. I'm not doing as much tuckering, as I found out that's what it's called when you put real people into a fictional setting, ah, because I don't want to slow this book down any further than it has been slowed down and drawing real people takes time.
There is one person who does appear in issue one (1) getting a autograph from HAWKEYE because, oh, did he badger me to death (laughs). Ok you're in there now luckily I didn't kill you (laughs).
So there are only a couple of people there but I have no real desire to put myself in there, ah, I probably sneak by name in there but then again I'm already in the credits I guess my name is already snuck in there.
Kurt, when I did the (pause) for those who have seen the pages in Wizard the scene from Belly Burger I believe the name of the place is from the DC Universe their version of Bob's Big Boy that kind of thing. No, that's not Kurt Busiek I drew there. That is the character as was shown to me in references they sent me. Oh yeah, cubby guy with beard, it is not Kurt. Kurt hair doesn't go that way (George makes a wave thru his hair)
So I had actually saw this someone had printed a list of people appearing in the JLA/AVENGERS and had listed Kurt Busiek as Big Belly Burger guy. No, Hey Kurt is a friend I wouldn't insult him that way but at this point none of us actually physically appear in the story.
to be continued...
Coming up: George talks about inking himself, a tip of the hat to CRISIS, and keeping the series current.

JLA/AVENGERS
DC and Marvel show off
exclusive pages from 2003's mega-team-up!
Throughout 20 years of false starts and company conflicts, one man always believed in JLA/Avengers.
"This is not only a dream come true," admits artist George Pérez of 2003's four-part mini-series teaming Marvel and DC Comics' iconic superteams. "It's also something I always had faith in. I always though one day, everything would fall into place and I'd be the artist on JLA/Avengers."
Pérez, who's enjoyed memorable stints on both JLA and Avengers, had drawn over 20 pages for the project in 1983, when it was scuttled due to arguments between Marvel and DC over the plot.
"George is throwing everything he's got into this project and it shows," observes series Kurt Busiek. "The difference between George and a lot of other artists is that George became a superstar but he never stopped trying. He's just never satisfied."
Describing his take on the story, Busiek explains, "We wanted to put the Avengers in a JLA situation and the JLA in an Avengers situation," reveals Busiek. "The classic JLA answer to a gigantic threat is, 'Figure out the answer.' The classic Marvel response to a big threat is 'Smack the crap out of it!'"
While both creators say JLA/Avengers as been a career benchmark, it hasn't been without problems. With Pérez just finishing the pencils for page 36 of the second issue and inks over 33 pages between the two issues, he has had to go back and make necessary changes.
"Green Lantern was actually penciled in his old costumes," informs Pérez. "Then when I was told he'd be getting a new costume, I started drawing him as just a naked man flying around. Eventually, I got the reference and I went back and inked it with his new costume."
Busiek says he's also made changes to the plot and characters as the Marvel and DC Unverses have evolved since last year.
"When I turned in the plot of issue #2, I ended up taking it completely apart and putting it back together again," says Busiek. "It got a lot better in the process, but that's all part of the making of something of this magnitude - everyone involved wants this to be the most surprising and talked-about project we've ever worked on."

Wizard #130 hasn't come out yet, check it out. How anyone has supposedly seen anything is
Friday, May 31 2002 at 18:22:33 GMT
I heard there was a mix-up out of Diamond's Plattsburgh warehouse and a good portion of the country didn't get this issue.
Thankfully San Francisco wasn't one of those portions. I had a first day sell-through on the copies with Avengers covers!
Go 'vengers!

I actually bought Wizard......and found I spent my money well! [SPOILERS]
Posted by D-Man on Thursday, May 30 2002 at 18:16:23 GMT
If no one has done by the end of today I'll try and scan the images from the recent Wizard mag and post them here for all to see.
Buying Wizard for this not one...but two Avengers treats is worth the price.
First you get the JLA/Avenger preview.
And it looks nice. Reeeeeeeeeal nice!
Avengers vs Starro.....JLA vs Terminus
Yeah....this is a good teaser. And Perez is in top form here!
From Vu :
Apparently it has been shipped, but for some reason, I don't know why it is not available in Minneapolis or Houston.

Wizard #130 Delayed |
|
From Vu
WIZARD #130 was not shipped for this week's new comics. But according to Diamond, it was supposed to have been:
>>>
Shipping This Week: May 30
The following products are expected to ship to comic book
specialty stores this week. Note that this list is tentative
and subject to change. Please check with your retailer for availability.
WIZARD
APR021958 WIZARD THE COMICS MAGAZINE AVENGERS CVR #130 $4.99
APR025011 WIZARD THE COMICS MAGAZINE SPIDER-MAN BLACK CAT CVR #130 $4.99
APR021957 WIZARD THE COMICS MAGAZINE WOLVERINE CVR #130 $4.99
>>>
We'll wait and see, but I'm assuming it will be in stores next week (June 5th).
One possible reason for WIZARD's delay might be because of Quebecor's computer problems. This was taken from CrossGen's website:
>>>
"Mark Alessi,
CrossGeneration President
Dear Sir,
Quebecor World Montreal wishes to apologize for what happened with the Diamond order shipment of Edge #2, Scion #24 and Crux #14, that were shipping on May 21st, 2002. We experienced some problems with our computer system. The books will ship one week later, leaving on May 29th 2002.
We are very sorry for the delay.
Thank you for understanding,
Lina La Valle
Quebecor World
Customer service representative, Distribution"
>>>
Possible, but that problem happened last week, and I was told by another comic store that WIZARD wasn't even listed on their invoice since Tuesday.
Anyone else out there who wants to shed some light on this, please let me know.

From
The Dark Lantern
If Wizard plans to showcase two-page spreads, most likely they'll be showing the scene where the Avengers face Starro, and/or the League battling Terminus (in front of a Lex-Mart, of all places).

Minor JLA Avengers update from WWE
Posted by Merk3 on Monday, May 13 2002 at 02:55:02 GMT
Can't really tell you much (not that I don't want to, I just don't have much info to tell), but I spoke to Dan Raspler (JLA editor) yesterday at the Wizard World East convention, and he says he as an issue and a half of the crossover in his office and it is unbelieveable. He said Perez is a madman. He couldn't believe that he could fit so much detail into every panel. He was really blown away. He couldn't say much, but he did say that it whatever each of us is expecting, there is so much in it that he's sure everyone will be happy.
Before anyone asks, no word on the release date, but two splash pages are what will appear in wizard this month. He said he really was dying to talk about it, but they aren't allowed. Very nice guy.
