NOVEMBER 2005 SALES CHARTS & MARKET SHARE REPORT
12-16-2005 03:40 PM
(excerpt)
UPDATE 12/17/05: This month, again thanks to our partnership with Comics Buyer’s Guide, Newsarama is now able to bring readers estimates of the number of comics, graphic novels, and now overall market sales sold to the direct market. Click on the following link for the Top 300 Comics, Top 100 Graphic Novels and Overall Market Estimates.
According to the analysis of CBG’s John Jackson Miller, Infinite Crisis, All-Star Superman, and a great month for new trade paperback sales (led by over 10k orders for The OMAC Project helped the direct market to double-digit gains in November. Stable year-over-year sales for comics were complemented by a $4.74 million month for Diamond’s Top 100 trade paperbacks, a 23% increase over the same month in 2004.
”The market continues on pace for a $350 million year in the direct market”, Miller said. “CBG had earlier projected a range between $340 and $350 million, but the market now looks as if it’ll wind up nearer the higher end of that range.”
“As of this past Wednesday, December 14, we have passed the overall dollar sales mark in the direct market set in 2005. From here on out it’s all growth. It’s gravy from here on out.”

UNSHEATHED: RON MARZ TALKS "WITCHBLADE'S" 10TH ANNIVERSARY
by Arune Singh, Staff Writer
Posted: October 12, 2005
(excerpt)
The next few months will continue to ramp up the excitement in "Witchblade" and Marz promises some exciting happenings for fans. "Right now Mike and I are finishing up a three-part story that's kind of the dark side of the Captain America archetype. November brings issue #92, our double-size 10th anniversary issue. We're finally going to reveal the origin of the Witchblade-- what the damn thing is and where it came from. We're pulling out all the artistic stops for that one. In addition to Mike Choi, we have pages by Darwyn Cooke, Eric Basaldua, Keu Cha, Luke Ross, Francis Manapul, Rodolfo Migliari, Brandon Peterson, Bart Sears, Terry Dodson, Chris Bachalo, George Perez and Marc Silvestri. We also added a few pages by another, secret artist, kind of an unannounced bonus. I have most of the book in front of me now, and it just looks spectacular.

Hey, I'm Jim McLauchlin, the editor-in-chief at Top Cow Productions.
We're VERY happy to have George Pérez as part of November's Witchblade
#92, our 10th Anniversary book. George is doing a 2-page spread in the
book, and we'll post it here to this group in a few days.
We at Top Cow would also like to thank C.B. Cebulski and Marvel
Comics. Mike Perkins is inking the piece, and Mike is under contract
to Marvel. But George and Mike work so well together, we asked if
Marvel would let Mike ink this piece…and C.B. said yes. So thanks to
all, and look for Witchblade #92 in November with art by George, Mike,
Chris Bachalo, Marc Silvestri and others!

CCI, DAY 2 - ORIENTATION: TOP COW PANEL SAN DIEGO COMIC-CON
by Dave Richards, Staff Writer
Posted: July 15, 2005
Laughter could be heard repeatedly from Room 6A in the San Diego Convention Center. No, a stand up comic wasn't entertaining the Comic-Con International crowd: Top Cow Productions was presenting a panel on their offerings for the remainder of the year. The panel focused on "Freshmen" a new six issues co-created by Hugh Sterbakov and Seth Green, which follows the misadventures of a group of college freshmen given powers that aren't exactly super. Green and Sterbakov were on hand to offer insight into their hilarious new series.

November marks the tenth anniversary of "Witchblade" and Top Cow plans to celebrate.
"In November, there's a big 'Witchblade 10th anniversary book coming out," McLauchlin told the crowd. "We're having over a dozen guest artists as part of the book. George Pérez will be doing some pages in it, Keu Cha who does beautiful painted work, Marc Silvestri, Luke Ross. It's going to be an outstanding issue."

YEAR OF THE COW

I. DIAMOND ANNIVERSARY
Assuming the apocalypse doesn't bring the series crashing down in April's issue #85, Marz has plenty of excitement planned for this year.
"2005 marks the 10th anniversary of Witchblade, so we're talking about doing something special to mark the occassion," says the writer. "After the big arc of 'Witch Hunt', the next batch of issues are single-issue stories. We'll have pretty gruesome crime with a haunted suit of armor that takes place in one of my favorite places on the planet. [New York] American Musuem of Natural History. There will also be a change in Sara's status quo as a cop, and the single-issue stories will eventually build into the next arc later in the year." "Oh, and maybe it's time to actually review what the Witchblade is and whre it came from," adds Marz with a cryptic smile.

I am currently inking the incredible Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on a project written by Phil Jimenez, who is also the cover penciler, with me inking Phil. Unfortunately, beyond that, I'm not at liberty to reveal what the project is so I've been calling it "The EZ Company Project" since all three creators share the same last two letters in our family names. DC Comics should be making an announcement relatively soon and it will be a relief to finally be able to talk about it openly.
Contrary to solicitations I have indeed drawn the cover for FALLEN ANGELS #20. Due to a mix-up in the scheduling it initially appeared that I couldn't do the cover, so the regular team was told to go ahead and draw the cover. When Peter David found out about that he reminded the editor that the deadlines had been pushed back and even though the book had been solicited with another cover, Peter figured few would be bummed out to find that there was a Pérez cover after all.
I have also drawn a cover for a Marvel Visionaries book spotlighting my 1970's run on FANTASTIC FOUR. Tom Smith colored that piece and, as usual, did a wonderful job.
I am currently drawing a variant cover for Top Cow's CITY OF HEROES #1 and will be drawing the cover for a CITY OF HEROES novel called "Web of Arachnos". This should be the first of three covers for a series of CoH novels. And since I just mentioned Top Cow, I should also announce that I will be participating in a special 10th Anniversary edition of WITCHBLADE. I will be drawing three pages written by Ron Marz. And as I draw those pages I will be filmed by a video crew for TwoMorrows' DVD companion to its MODERN MASTERS book series.
There have been other offers, including some covers for Dynamic Forces' RED SONYA and ARMY OF DARKNESS. I also will be providing a cover for DF's STORYTELLER, yet another retrospective on my career. (I am definitely being over-exposed). A cover for ForceWerks' B.A.B.E. FORCE is also on my schedule. There have been other one-shots I've been offered that I'm not yet free to discuss, or yet to accept, but after "The EZ Company Project" I will be primarily focusing my attention on completing GAMES: THE TITANS GRAPHIC NOVEL. Inker Mike Perkins has already started on some pages and Tom Smith has 30 pages ready to start so it's up to me to get busy so that Marv Wolfman can start dialoguing the first half of the book.
As for conventions this year, here's my schedule for 2005 so far.
February 25-27: Mega Con in Orlando, FL.
March 18-20: Wizard World Los Angeles in Long Beach, CA
April 22-24: Pittsburgh Comicon in Monroeville, PA (I even provided the T-Shirt art)
July 14-17: Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA
September 13-17: Comic Book Festival in Avilés, Spain
Those are the confirmed shows. There is a possibility of more, but I'm trying to limit my time away from the drawing board this year.
