TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #44 (Reprint) (Jun 2005)
You had expressed interest about whether or not Marv and I would receive royalties from the Nightwing action figure. The answer is yes (And inker Dick Giordano would also receive monies from the reprinting of the comic) )Be assured that Marv and I each get royalties from anything that has to do with our version of the Titans, including the cartoon show, in that case pro rated according to the number of characters and stories actually based on our work. We even received royalties from the BATMAN & ROBIN movie because Chris O'Donnell's costume not only resembled the current Nightwing costume, but the name "Nightwing" was also mentioned as an alternative to "Robin" in one scene. DC has been very conscientious in regards to royalties and royalties accounted for almost 60% of my 2004 income-- with over 40% of that coming from Titans-related merchandise. The rest of the royalties were primarily from the sales of JLA/AVENGERS from which DC and Marvel split the royalty participation with the creative team.

I'm just sending this clarification to show that DC is rather meticulous and forward-thinking when it comes to creator's profit participation, at least as far as my experience has shown, and often, the good things that a company does don't get their proper due.

Just my two cents (plus royalties). As ever, thanks for everything.

FIRST APPEARANCE SERIES #3: NIGHTWING (Jun 2005)

TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #44 (Reprint) (Jun 2005)

ACTUAL SIZE OF TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #44 (Reprint) (Jun 2005)
I've always thought that Nightwing's costume is one of my favorite Pérez design. It's very Seventies, if you know what I mean.

The articulation is pretty poor (there's only 8 points), and posing Nightwing is pretty limited. It's still better than some of the earlier DC Direct toys, which functioned more like plastic statues that you could move the arms and legs.

The sculpt of Dick Grayson's head looks too cheerful. To me, Nightwing is similiar to Batman, in which the character is more serious.

I think $14.99 is too much to be asking for this toy, but I guess they probably don't produce too many of these figures and sold almost exclusively through comic book stores/Diamond Distribution. $14.99 is a pretty common price for specialty action figures, I guess.

The best part of this toy is that it came with a tiny reproduction of TALES OF THE TEEN TITANS #44 (Jul 1984)! It barely qualifies as readable as the word balloons are incredibly small (and you thought reading Dark Horse's Lone Wolf and Cub was bad!)

What's interesting is that the reprint does not contain any writing or art credit (Update: Their credits are on the front cover.). I wonder if George or Marv is getting any money out of this ?
