Teen Titans #1 was a major release for DC's new direct sales program and a bright signal that the publisher was taking the new market for comic books very seriously. Writer Marv Wolfman and artist George Perez had worked their way to the position of DC's premire creative team with sales on Titans that rivaled Marvel's X Men title. The chance to add another title to the creator's schedule was irristable to DC so they pulled out the stops and made Titans #1 an event.
The book was printed on mando stock with new process color, promotion was extensive in the direct market, the only place the new series would be available and a series of house ads and posters were prepared in advance of the books release.
This poster, heralding the release of the first issue was designed by Perez and was distributed to the limited number of retail stores carrying the direct only book in the mid eighties. It features the main characters of the series Raven, Changling, Starfire, Nightwing, Cyclops, Jericho and Wondergirl in an action filled, full color painting signifying the events of the first series of issues.
Never offered to the general public the posters were distributed, one to a store months before the books release intended for display.
