Donna Troy was one of the most beloved members of the DC Comics Teen Titans. Fans mourned her death in the "Graduation Day" mini-series and rejoiced when DC announced the four-issue "DC Special: Return of Donna Troy" mini-series by writer Phil Jimenez and artist Jose Garcia Lopez. However, when some readers picked up the first issue of the series they found it wasn't quite what they expected and some were left confused. CBR News chatted with Jimenez by phone last week for some clarification and background on the series and some hints on how it ties into the looming "Infinite Crisis."
(excerpt)
After the DC Universe settles down from the events of "Infinite Crisis," readers can expect appearances from Donna in a monthly DC book. "I think there's been some talk. The plan had always been that once she was reintroduced she would be placed in either the 'Titans' or 'The Outsiders.' I suspect it will be one of those books."
Jimenez has enjoyed crafting a story that reintroduces one of his favorite characters and places her at the forefront of the big events in the DC Universe. He urges readers who may be confused or have questions to stick with the book. The final two issues of "The Return of Donna Troy" should tie things together for them nicely. "I just hope readers remembers that it is a four-issue series," Jimenez said. "Just because everything wasn't explained in issue one doesn't mean it doesn't pan out over the other three issues."

George Perez, who recently signed a five-year exclusive agreement with DC Comics, should have no problem filling that time with work. He's inking several DC projects, including The Return of Donna Troy, and has tons of offers for even more work within the company.
“If I were to say 'yes' to every offer that’s been made to me in the past few months I’d be busy through 2011,” the superstar writer/artist reflected at the Pittsburgh Comicon, grateful that after 30 years doing comics professionally he is still in demand, he joked “I'm the pretty girl at the prom.”
Celebrating the 25th anniversary of his landmark series The New Teen Titans with writer Marv Wolfman, Perez is currently inking Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez’ pencils on the Return of Donna Troy miniseries “I‘m getting such an education,” he said. He also recreated the cover of NTT No. 1 for the cover of this year‘s Overstreet Price Guide. Plus he's resumed work on the Titans graphic novel, Games with collaborator Wolfman. Though he isn’t involved with the Cartoon Network's Teen Titans show's production, he also gets a percentage of profits from the cartoon and spin-off merchandise. In fact, between that and the financial success of the long-awaited JLA/Avengers, Perez has spent most of the past year on vacation, making up for lost time with his wife, Carol. Time that he lost while creating the work-intensive JLA/Avengers crossover which, at one point, gave him tendonitis. “I have not drawn an interior comic book page in nine months,” he said.

The former Titan resurfaces with clues to 'Crisis'.
It's a brand-new dawn for Donna!
Originally Wonder Girl Donna Troy, seemingly killed in Titans/Young Justice: Graduation Day mini-series but instead transported to a strange world, roars back to life in DC Special: The Return of Donna Troy. written by Phil Jimenez with art by Jose Luis Garcia and George Perez, the four issue mini also serves as the official prologue to October's Infinite Crisis mini-series (drawn by Jimenez and written by Geoff Jones).
"This series sets Donna Troy up as a major player in the Crisis itself," the writer says. "It also connects to the cosmic events of the Rann/Thanagar War and the Teen Titans and the Outsiders. We're using her background and history to explain why she's so pivotal to the DC Universe, and why she, more than anyone else, has to be in the role she's about to take on."
Plus August's issue #3 is girl-on-girl action when Donna tangles with current Wonder Girl Cassie Sandsmark!

Yesterday saw the inking side of the art team of The Return of Donna Troy - George Perez make some news with his five year exclusive contract with DC. Today, we caught up with Donna Troy writer Phil Jimenez to find out more about the upcoming miniseries which promises the return of…well, see the title.
But first, probably a quick look back at “who is Donna Troy?” is in order. It’s a question whose explanation can cause the heads of even the most knowledgeable DC scholars’ heads explode, Scanners style.
Concept-wise, Donna Troy is a bit of a patchwork due to the fact that, as Wonder Girl, she survived Crisis on Infinite Earths, but as a result of Crisis, Wonder Woman’s history was re-jiggered…to say the least. Over the years, as different writers came in to update, patch, and shoehorn some semblance of an origin that worked within DC’s post-Crisis continuity, Donna’s story became more and more convoluted.
Her final version of history, which still has a few bumps, runs along the lines that Donna was created to be a playmate to the young Princess Diana on the island of Themyscrea, home of the Amazons. Thinking her to be the real Diana, Donna was kidnapped by the being called Dark Angel and forced to live hundreds of different life paths with each one ending in tragedy before she was snatched from it, and sent down another. Hey – we didn’t say her story was easy.
In this life, Donna was orphaned at birth, and raised by the Titans of Myth to be one of many sleeper agents who would one day rise with others to save the gods. Returned to earth (and imbued with powers) Donna: became Wonder Girl, joined the Teen Titans, got married, had a kid, embraced her heritage as “Troia,” lost her powers, divorced her husband, became a Darkstar, lived through the death of her ex-husband and child, gave up heroing, had her memories erased by Dark Angel, had her memories restored (from Flash’s memories of her) by Wonder Woman, retook the name Troia, served with the Titans, and was, most recently, killed in Graduation Day, while battling a Superman android. Though dead in this world, it was shown in the end of Graduation Day that Donna had essentially moved to another world, to another battle. Phew.
