GEORGE PEREZ - STORYTELLER: THE FIRST 30 YEARS HC (2007)
    #4 BEST SELLER (27 Sep 2006)
I was surprised to find that Storyteller is #4 on today's "Best Sellers" list from dynamicforces.com, especially since Bret confirmed that they are not at print yet.

In the meantime, I suggest those that's already pre-paid for the book to ask for their money back if you haven't already.

I have personally had problems with certain vaporware books that I will not buy until I actually see it in print.

The best solution is to wait until this website announced when it is available to buy.

Looking around DF's website, I stumbled upon this excerpt from the book:

CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS #5 (Aug 1985)
    >>>
"No one else could have done what George did," Wolfman exclaims. "His basic storytelling was so superior to anyone’s at the time... no one else could have come close to doing what he did."

Since there were relatively few places within the issues for Perez to, as Wolfman says, "do what George does best, which is draw big pictures of incredible stuff," the artist brought his "wow-able" abilities to bear on Crisis’ covers.

Based on a request from Perez’s wife, who felt her husband was pushing himself too hard on the series, Wolfman suggested his artist draw a simple cover for Crisis’ fifth issue, an uncomplicated image featuring only three faces and two merging Earths.

The cover Perez submitted did contain two merging Earths—along with 96 faces. Once the artist got started, he simply couldn’t stop drawing; if he saw sufficient open space, he added another character’s head. He was having too much fun to stop.

Just wanted to give you an update, I called Dynamic Forces (www.dynamicforces.com) yesterday to find out if Storyteller was on schedule for October as announced and they said no. Still won't be out for a couple of months, this from Angelo Barrucci, Media Coordinator. You know, we're coming up on this book being solicited an entire YEAR ago. Last time I spoke with them was in March and they SWORE the book was at the printer to be shipped the following month. So what happened, they yanked the book back from the printer? I asked this of Mr. Barrucci and all he had to say was, 'Uh... Uh... Uh... no comment.'

As a consumer who already PREPAID for this book, I don't know where a publisher has the AUCACITY to solicit for a book that quite obviously was no where NEAR DONE. A year has gone by and nothing. More and more publishers are doing this and by soliciting for a product that quite obviously you are no where NEAR completing or PRINTING, making consumers pay for merchandise that they clearly have no intention of shipping is not only FALSE ADVERTISING but just plain FRAUD and THIEVERY.

I don't mean to be so strong but as a company, DYNAMIC FORCES had NO BUSINESS soliciting for this project, doing major press on it in places like COMIC SHOP NEWS where it was COVER FEATURED, when they would take well over a year to complete it.

Shame on them as a business and any consumer should BUYER BEWARE with this company going forward.

Would you believe Dynamic Forces delayed this thing yet AGAIN?

Originally solicited last YEAR, supposed to be out for Christmas 2005, then Jan 2006, Feb 2006, March 2006, JUNE 2006, then I spoke with someone at the end of June, they said it’s at the printer and would DEFINITELY be in JULY.

We thought, hoped, it would at least ship for San Diego Comic Con and someone in customer service just informed me that the book has been delayed yet AGAIN.

Once again, the book is not coming out this month.

They state it’s at the printer but do not know when it will ship but definitely NOT this month.

    What’s up with these people?

The release date for Storyteller has changed from 'December 2005' to 'Available Soon!' at www.dynamicforces.com

Amazon.com has updated their expected release date for Storyteller - they now have it as February 25th, 2006. Who knows how they got that date, but they usually take the scheduled direct sales release date, then add 2 weeks to it to come up with the amazon.com 'release' date. Thus, could this mean...might it mean...will it mean that Storyteller will arrive in comic stores on February 8th or 15th? Only the Dynamic Forces of the Amazons know for sure.

    August 31, 2005

Art Book From Dynamic Forces George Perez

Dynamic Forces is preparing to publish George Perez: Storyteller, the First 30 Years--a definitive chronicle of the career (so far) of one of the most-admired artists in comic book history. Author Christopher Lawrence recounts the history of Perez's climb from an assistant to Deathlok creator Rich Buckler to elite status as the master craftsman behind the epic Crisis on Infinite Earths. From his early Marvel work on the Fantastic Four and Avengers to his breakout stint at DC on the New Teen Titans, to his work at CrossGen, Lawrence's monograph covers the arc of Perez's career in over 200 pages filled with full color illustrations.

George Perez: Storyteller, the First 30 Years will be published in two editions -- a regular version with a cover price of $29.99 and in a deluxe Signed Edition ($49.99), which will be strictly limited to initial orders only.

PEREZ - 30 YEARS IN THE MAKING
    August 29 2005, Runnemede, NJ
Definitive Retrospective Prepared By DF, Featuring George Perez
GEORGE PÉREZ - STORYTELLER: THE FIRST 30 YEARS HC (Dec 2005) GEORGE PÉREZ - STORYTELLER: THE FIRST 30 YEARS HC (Signed) (Jan 2006)
Dynamic Forces presents “Storyteller” the definitive retrospective on legendary artist George Perez, written by Christopher Lawrence and featuring over 200 pages in full color as well as an all-new cover by Perez.

An excerpt from the book is available at the end of this release.

George Perez started his comics career as an assistant to Deathlok creator Rich Buckler. In fact, George's first work was a two-page humor piece which appeared in Marvel's Astonishing Tales #25 which introduced Deathlock the Demolisher. George was given fill-in jobs on two low-selling series, Man-Wolf in Creatures on the Loose #33 and The Sons of the Tiger in Deadly Hands of Kung Fu #6. The writers of these two series, David Kraft and Bill Mantlo, respectively, were impressed enough with the newcomer's work to have him become the regular penciller on both series.

    The rest is history.

“It’s hard to imagine that George Perez has been gracing the comics world for 30 years now. George has been an idol of mine since I first started reading comics and I’m fortunate that he’s grown to be a close friend as well over the years I’ve been in the business,” explained DF President Nick Barrucci. “We’re honored that the first in our series of historical and archival works, featuring the masters of the form, will start with Storyteller, spotlighting George!”

The book is featured in the pages of the new Previews (pages #276 and #277) and is available for PRE-ORDER now from your local comics shop, or direct from Dynamic Forces.

GEORGE PEREZ: STORYTELLER SHIPS IN DECEMBER
    08-29-2005 09:06 PM

It’s a retrospective, though, truth be told, if he keeps it up, it may just be the first retrospective of a massive career in comics.

In December, Dynamic Forces will ship Storyteller: The First Thirty Years, a 200+page volume featuring hundreds of illustrations by Perez as well as a career-spanning interview by Christopher Lawrence, and an all-new cover by Perez.

The $29.99 retail book begins in Perez’s early days as an assistant to Rich Buckler, and his progression to fill-in artist on Man-Wolf in Creatures on the Loose #33 and The Sons of the Tiger in Deadly Hands of Kung-Fu #6. Perez became the regular artist on both series, and a legend was born.

“It’s hard to imagine that George Perez has been gracing the comics world for 30 years now. George has been an idol of mine since I first started reading comics and I’m fortunate that he’s grown to be a close friend as well over the years I’ve been in the business,” explained DF President Nick Barrucci in a release. “We’re honored that the first in our series of historical and archival works, featuring the masters of the form, will start with Storyteller, spotlighting George!”

I am currently inking the incredible Jose Luis Garcia-Lopez on a project written by Phil Jimenez, who is also the cover penciler, with me inking Phil. Unfortunately, beyond that, I'm not at liberty to reveal what the project is so I've been calling it "The EZ Company Project" since all three creators share the same last two letters in our family names. DC Comics should be making an announcement relatively soon and it will be a relief to finally be able to talk about it openly.

Contrary to solicitations I have indeed drawn the cover for FALLEN ANGELS #20. Due to a mix-up in the scheduling it initially appeared that I couldn't do the cover, so the regular team was told to go ahead and draw the cover. When Peter David found out about that he reminded the editor that the deadlines had been pushed back and even though the book had been solicited with another cover, Peter figured few would be bummed out to find that there was a Pérez cover after all.

I have also drawn a cover for a Marvel Visionaries book spotlighting my 1970's run on FANTASTIC FOUR. Tom Smith colored that piece and, as usual, did a wonderful job.

I am currently drawing a variant cover for Top Cow's CITY OF HEROES #1 and will be drawing the cover for a CITY OF HEROES novel called "Web of Arachnos". This should be the first of three covers for a series of CoH novels. And since I just mentioned Top Cow, I should also announce that I will be participating in a special 10th Anniversary edition of WITCHBLADE. I will be drawing three pages written by Ron Marz. And as I draw those pages I will be filmed by a video crew for TwoMorrows' DVD companion to its MODERN MASTERS book series.

There have been other offers, including some covers for Dynamic Forces' RED SONYA and ARMY OF DARKNESS. I also will be providing a cover for DF's STORYTELLER, yet another retrospective on my career. (I am definitely being over-exposed). A cover for ForceWerks' B.A.B.E. FORCE is also on my schedule. There have been other one-shots I've been offered that I'm not yet free to discuss, or yet to accept, but after "The EZ Company Project" I will be primarily focusing my attention on completing GAMES: THE TITANS GRAPHIC NOVEL. Inker Mike Perkins has already started on some pages and Tom Smith has 30 pages ready to start so it's up to me to get busy so that Marv Wolfman can start dialoguing the first half of the book.

As for conventions this year, here's my schedule for 2005 so far.
February 25-27: Mega Con in Orlando, FL.
March 18-20: Wizard World Los Angeles in Long Beach, CA
April 22-24: Pittsburgh Comicon in Monroeville, PA (I even provided the T-Shirt art)
July 14-17: Comic-Con International in San Diego, CA
September 13-17: Comic Book Festival in Avilés, Spain

Those are the confirmed shows. There is a possibility of more, but I'm trying to limit my time away from the drawing board this year.
