Image Collection Resurrects Early Spawn

Hot on the heels of Spawn's 150th issue, Image Comics & Todd McFarlane Productions will keep the anniversary celebration going in comics shops by revisiting 10 pivotal early, long out-of-print issues of the popular, long-running series with the Spawn Collection Volume 1.

Since its explosive 1992 debut, Spawn has riveted fans with the ongoing saga of resurrected government assassin Al Simmons as he combats everything from agonizing personal demons to the forces of Hell in the form of Spawn. Loyal fans of the comic, the live-action film and the animated series -- and those awaiting the upcoming animated movie -- won't want to miss these stories by McFarlane and other top creators.

The collection -- which will contain issues #1-#8 & #11-#12 (rather than #1-#10, as originally solicited) -- is offered as a Trade Paperback (AUG051640, $19.95), a Hardcover (AUG051641, $39.95), and a Limited-edition Hardcover (AUG051642, $59.95) that will be limited to 500 numbered copies and contain a mini-archival print signed by Todd McFarlane.

All three editions are scheduled to ship on October 26.

SPAWNED SOLICITATION

Solicitation information for the new "Spawn" trade/hardcover series has caused some concerned comment from fans.

Currently listed as "written by Todd McFarlane and others, art and cover by McFarlane" it proceeds to state it contains "'Spawn' issues 1-10."

Considering that included both the disputed ownership "Spawn" #9 written by Neil Gaiman and the off-continuity "Spawn" #10 by Dave Sim, of which there is also dispute as to whether Dave Sim has allowed republication.

Image representatives inform me that incorrectly solicited information has been released and it will be corrected. The volume will include issues 1-8, then issues 11 and 12. And additionally, Dave Sim has faxed instructions to Image that they may reprint "Spawn" #10 if and when Todd chooses to do so.
