OVERSTREET #35 (Random House)
(May 2005)
|
I don't believe in price guides, I think a price is really determined by geography and demand. Even if the book says something is valuable, it doesn't mean that is how much someone would pay for something…
The cover is a recreation of NEW TEEN TITANS #1, but the art has definitely improved with Perez doing his own inking, with new colors by Tom Smith. The same art and interior content was used for the direct market of OVERSTREET'S BIG, BIG OVERSTREET COMIC BOOK PRICE GUIDE #35, but it is spiral bound instead of book bound.
Between the two, the Random House edition features a larger cover art and is readily available at most book stores (I found mine at a Borders Book).
This 1073-page, mostly black and white, book is pretty heavy. The paper is semi-glossy and looks pretty sturdy, but very thin. Of the 150 pages of content (not including the actual price guide), there is a three-page article on the Teen Titans and Crisis.
The article was written by J.C. Vaughn and is entitled, "Teen Titans at 25, Crisis at 20". For those too poor to buy the one of the 4 different version of OVERSTREET #35, fear not, I will transcribe the article sometime in the future.
My only complaint about this book costs $25 and has over 120 pages of advertisement - they are all together at the beginning and ending of the book.

New Teen Titans #1 Celebrates 25 Years In 2005
Industry News, Scoop, Friday, December 17, 2004
Could it possibly have been a quarter of a century since New Teen
Titans #1 hit the stands? Well, yes, it could in 2005. New Teen
Titans #1, which debuted following a teaser appearance by the team within
the pages of DC Comics Presents #26, became an instant hit following its
release back in 1980.
The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #35 celebrates that
historic issue and the series that followed with a special re-creation cover by
none other than George Pérez, the artist who illustrated the famed
original version and helped make that particular super team the powerhouse it is
today. Colored by Pérez's JLA/Avengers colorist Tom Smith, this
cover will appear in wide release through traditional bookstores on the Random
House edition of the Guide and in comic book stops on the limited
edition, spiral-bound version called The Big Big Overstreet Comic Book Price
Guide in May 2005.
"Both George and Tom knocked themselves out on
this cover," said J.C. Vaughn, Executive Editor of Gemstone Publishing. "It's a
tremendous version of New Teen Titans #1, which is simultaneously very
faithful to the original and yet slightly better, if that's possible. We're very
happy to have it as one of our covers this year."
The Official
Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #35 Random House edition will be available
in traditional bookstores this spring. The Big Big Overstreet Comic Book
Price Guide #35 will be available for ordering in the January Previews
from Diamond Comic Distributors.
The standard comic book specialty
market versions of The Official Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #35,
featuring the Iron Man/Tales of Suspense #39 recreation by John K. Snyder
III and Little Lulu by John Stanley will be available in stores in April 2005.
They are presently available for orders at your local comic shop or direct from
Gemstone Publishing by calling toll free (888) 375-9800 ext. 249.

The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide reaches its landmark 35th edition! More than any other single publication, this book has helped defined comic book collecting as we know it today, and it's not about to rest on all the accolades its received in its three and a half decades. This year, the Guide delves further and broader into the reaches of comics history with articles on the earliest comics (from 1754!), comics in schools (in the 1920s!), the 70th anniversary of Little Lulu, the 25th anniversary of New Teen Titans #1, the 20th anniversary of Crisis on Infinite Earths, and the history of Iron Man from the beginning to the present. The Overstreet Comic Book Price Guide #35 comes with a choice of two covers: a stunning recreation of Tales of Suspense #39 by John K.
