19 Avengers on an 18 inch by 17 inch single piece of artboard. Art has almost no border. Produced for the 1981 Marvel Calendar (August plate) and likely drawn late 1979 or early 1980. This was the first piece of art I bought back in the early 90’s. A dealer had given me a call one night and said he had just bought a collection and wanted to know if he could come by and show me a few that were on my want list. The guy was willing to drive out of his way before he started his 6 hour road trip home to show me a few comics, so who was I to say no. He showed up at my parents house at around 11 pm grabbed the books and a couple of other items and brought them in. Well, one of the other items was this poster. I was just about to start at university and was broke so I sat on the fence about purchasing it for an hour while we talked comics and when he finally got up to leave, I said to hell with it and spent the money I didn’t have. And that’s my first piece of art. Would I trade it? I would think about it for some sentimental favourites. It wouldn’t be easy to let go of but if I could find work from those early books I used to pick up off the racks at the corner store, I would consider it.
