(1) INFINITE CRISIS
10/2005: Infinite Crisis #1 (of 7) -- 249,265 -- [268,458]
11/2005: Infinite Crisis #2 (of 7) -- 207,564 (-16.7%) -- [224,068]
12/2005: Infinite Crisis #3 (of 7) -- 188,853 (- 9.0%) -- [216,727]
01/2006: Infinite Crisis #4 (of 7) -- 182,633 (- 3.3%) -- [207,297]
02/2006: --
03/2006: Infinite Crisis #5 (of 7) -- 201,855 (+10.5%)
For the fifth time in a row, INFINITE CRISIS breaks the 200K barrier. Which means it's the most successful direct market title in at least nine years ("at least" because numbers before 1997 are hard to come by).
More significantly, first-month sales actually went up in March compared to issue #4, and all previous issues made the Top 300 chart again, selling between 3,651 (#1) and 8,139 (#4) copies, underscoring that the story is still generating demand.
INFINITE CRISIS is a home run for DC, obviously.
(36) JSA
02/2006: JSA #82 -- 54,234 (+ 8.3%)
03/2006: JSA #83 -- 51,991 (- 4.1%)
It's "One Year Later," but minus the artwork of George Pérez, who illustrated issue #82. As a result, sales take a step down. These are still great numbers, however, so it's safe to assume that the book's upcoming cancelation in July is not due to low sales, but because they have yet another relaunch waiting in the wings. How long can it be now before the trick gets old (again)?

Comic Book Review: JSA #83
Published: March 3, 2006
by R.J. Carter
(excerpt)
Oh, there's a throwaway reference to Green Lantern's daughter, Jade, but we don't quite know what that's all about yet. But honestly, Mr. Levitz, I'd think the readers deserve a bigger hook for what's supposedly touted as an "event book". Oh, it's still a good enough story with one of my favorite villains. And the interior are by Rags & Ross (not to mention the George Perez cover!) sock-knocking-off. It's just... I don't know. If you'd run the story last year, I'd have been pleased as punch. But I just came away with the same feeling I get when a friend invites me along to "this great new restaurant" where I end up getting a hamburger and fries and am then expected to join in with his raving when all I got was, well, a hamburger and fries. Which is what this issue is: a nice fast-food of a read, but no different than what you'd get any other month.
