Okay... After waiting for an eternity, I finally got issue 2... although just the variant cover edition. But I'm sure I'll get the regular edition as well soon. Anyway, on to the review...
The positive trend started with the first issue keeps on. Actually, I've kind of grown to the rougher, non-gloss covers which, at least to me, look like you can touch them without worrying about fingerprints etc. while still being of a high quality.
The translation of Christian Heiß is again enjoyable, and aside from Thor, I'm especially surprised this time by Plastic Man whose jokes seem to be even funnier in the German version. My only points of criticism are a "literal" translation of the term "Asgardians" instead of the established, "mythologic" German name, and a tiny twist of words in the translation of "Let those who worship evil's might..." which kind of inverts the meaning of the phrase. But given Kyle's situation in the respective scene, that kind of makes sense.
While I can't say whether the "Spinal Tap" reference was translated "Correctly" (having never watched the movie either in the German dub nor in English), the translation of "Hungry Hungry Hippos" makes it evident that Christian obsiously doesn't know the game. But then, I failed at trying to find out the German name of the game either, although I'm sure having played it as a kid. Finally, the term "big bang" was translated literally while I'd have preferred the established German term (which would translate literally as "primal bang").
The standardized lettering font for all characters is a minor letdown as compared to the American edition, and Tom Smith is erroneously listed as "inker" in the credits again.
The printing quality is still great and hardly any different from the American edition.
The editorial pages include an introduction i.e. summary of the events of the first issue (just like in the American edition) and short bios on Batman and Captain America.
Conclusion: You happen to understand German and don't want to spend $ 5.95 on the issue - save about 1/3 of the money and buy the German reprint instead.
Note: There's also a variant cover edition that's available exclusively at comic book shops that participate in the "Panini Point" partner program and has a cover price of 6.50 Euros. The cover art has been taken from page 47 of issue 1.
Stay tuned for my review of issue 3 which was also in the mail today. :)

Issue 3 is delayed until June (because of the delay of the American issue 4).
Batman/Superman #2 by Panini (reprinting US Batman/Superman #3-4). The editortial pages feature some short in-house ads, one of them is for JLA/Die Rächer #2. It says "also available as a variant edition in Panini Point shops."
"Panini Point shops" are comic book shops that participate in the "Panini Point" program which somehow guarantees them some bonus stuff like variant covers etc.
This was originally printed the the Juli/August 2003 edition of the "Graphic Attack" preview catalog (the German equivalent of Previews):
START: September 2003
PANINI COMICS POINT
It basically says that some selected comic shops are participating in some kind of "partner" program and will receive the *full* Panini Comics and DVD program.

JLA/AVENGERS #1
Finally, the long anticipated meeting of the two greatest super hero teams in comic book history is coming! Comic book legends Kurt Busiek and George Pérez present a breathtaking tour de force across the two universes that showcases big surprises and sensational meetings of the heroes. And of course, the entire cosmos is coming loose as Krona and the Grandmaster are waging a dangerous game between the worlds - and the battle between the League and the Avengers ensues!
JLA/AVENGERS #2
The battle between the universes ensues! Kurt Busiek and George Pérez present, among other things, the definite one-on-one battle between Batman and Captain America, as well as an epic fight between Superman and Thor. Furthermore, lots of other heroes track down the 12 artifacts Krona and the Grandmaster set them up to. The survival of both universes is at stake - but what will happen when Galactus intervenes in the cosmic power play?!?
(Vu: Panini Comic is selling these issues online - for 4 EUR. That is about $4, give or take. It is actually cheaper than the US editions, which costs $5. I am not sure what format it is as it does list "unspecified", but we are assuming they are in Prestige Format. Also, if you click on the header links, it will allow you to see larger scans of the covers in PNG format. PNG is the free format to Compuserve's GIF format.)

JLA/DIE RÄCHER (Avengers)
The contest of champions

(2004)

This event has been expected by the comic book world for years, and it seemed as if it would never see the light of day. But fans of both Marvel and DC persisted...
...until the two big companies gave their go-ahead. Kurt Busiek was chosen as writer, George Pérez as artist. The comics have just been released in the USA. They became a huge success. Yes, of course we are talking about the JLA/DIE RÄCHER crossover that will be released in German this March! What? You want to know more about it? Well, a few more details that will probably make the waiting even harder for you... JLA/DIE RÄCHER is a four-issue limited series in prestige format, 52 pages each. In it, you will find countless heroes from the universes of both Marvel and DC: Thor! Superman! Captain America! Batman! The Scarlet Witch! Wonder Woman! And, of course, also Iron Man, Martian Manhunter, Vision, Flash, Hawkeye, Quicksilver, Green Lantern...
Together, all of them are fighting a new villain named Krona who is coming to our universe looking for knowledge. But his mission could destroy the entire multiverse! The Elder of the Universe, known as the Gamesmaster, lures Krona into participating in a game in which both the Avengers and the JLA as well as their enemies are involved. First, they have to fight each other, only to join forces in order to stop Krona afterwards!
Look forward to the battle between Superman and Thor, Captain America and Batman, Hawkeye's relationship with Black Canary and other entanglements betwen the Avengers and the JLA! Of course, no-one else could have drawn such an epoch-making event but George Pérez who is crowning his long, successful career with JLA/DIE RÄCHER. Take a look at the images on these pages if you don't believe this!
[The rest of the text deals with the solo books of both teams and has nothing to do with JLA/Avengers. Also, note that they a) spoiled a lot more of the contents than DC and Marvel did for the US version, b) they mistook Krona for a new villain and c) the "Gamesmaster" spelling error...]
The exact release date of the first issue will be announced next Tuesday.

I just wanted to inform you that I bought issue 2 today at the "Comic Action 2003" convention in Essen, Germany. So it should be in most local stores by
now.
Ron Marz, who is attending the convention, wanted to have a look since he
didn't have a chance to read the issue yet. He would have preferred to see
more double-page spreads, but aside from that, he seemed to like the issue
at first glance.
The guys from Panini Comics who will publish the translated German version also liked it. :-)
