IN THE ALLEY DOCUMENTARY (2007)

This past weekend, Rich and I did our thing in Novi at the Motor City Comic Con. I really had two goals at the Con this year. The first was to keep Rich and myself in front of people as we await the day of Paragon's (our new book through Sundragon Comics) arrival and to get footage for a documentary I'm doing called In the Alley. It will be a 15-20 minute documentary about the experience of being in the Artist Alley at comic cons.
As far as enjoyment goes, it was one our our best Motor City Con's ever. We sold Urban Mystics very well, had some great table neighbors, and I got some great interviews for the doc.
I spoke with people at their first convention and people who were old pros. I spoke with Vince Locke about seeing your work adapted into a film (he's the artist of A History of Violence). I got a great interview with George Perez about why he still comes to conventions and his impressions of what's changed over the three decades he's been in the industry. I also had a great talk with Martin Nodell, the creator of Green Lantern (and the Pilsbury Doughboy). He's a great guy and a regular in Novi. As he said (I'm paraphrasing), "It's all art. Whether you're Da Vinci or a comic book artist, it's all art. Don't let anyone tell you you're working in a lower class field."
