Another too-long absence, I know. Again, there are very good reasons for that state of affairs, as I've mentioned before. However, I can now freely talk about why I've been missing from this venue so much for the past four-plus months.

On Monday, the 21st of May, 2007, I signed a contract with Rosen Publishing. This deal covers a series of interview books collecting my past conversations with four comic creators--Alan Moore, Neil Gaiman, George Pérez and Mike Oeming--and represent the first volumes in Rosen newly christened Talking with Graphic Novelists series. All of these books are already prepped and fully approved by both myself and the subjects. Even better, some of them are already on their way to the printer. Which means that they should be readily available for their scheduled August, 2007 release dates.

And then, scheduled for release in plenty of time for the holiday gift season, George Perez: Best of All Worlds [again, tentative title] will collect the extended and fairly extensive interview I did with George which was published over the course of several issues of the late, greatly-missed Comic Book Marketplace magazine from Gemstone. George has already given his blessings to this project, and we're talking about some different ideas which would make this a kinda special/cool package. As I explained to George, I figure this will serve as volume one for now, as it covers almost the entirety of his life and career up to the height of CrossGen Comics, when the interview was originally conducted. Plus, this is a monster interview, really and truly huge and lengthy as it exists. So the easiest and most logical way to do this is publish this interview as it stands; then, at some point in the future after a suitable passage of time, George and I will sit down for another extended chat, essentially just picking up the conversation where we left off at the end of the first book. I'll be talking up this book, and the fun things we've got planned for it, in the near future.

GEORGE PEREZ: THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS (2007)
    More Moore!
Recently I got to read the book Alan Moore's Exit Interview. How was it? Good enough to warrant it's own section here in ATR. Basically it's a 70+ interview with Alan Moore "on 25 years of creating comics, the state of the medium and the industry, and what the future may hold for all concerned". Bill Baker is the talented fellow who presents this volume, and you may recognise last book he published, Alan Moore Spells It Out. If you want to read an enlightening and delightful tome on the industry, this is for you. Moore is always good for this sort of thing, and Baker does a great job of playing interviewer and host. Another item to note is the layout and design, executed masterfully by Paul Michael Kane.

Look for this book next weekend at the New York Comic-Con, where it will premiere. You'll be able to get your hands on it at Paul Michael Kane's table (A238) as apart of PMK Imagination's set-up. There will also be some freshly excavated copies of the sold out Alan Moore Spells It Out available. Sounds pretty damn cool, eh? Wish I was going to NYCC.

Bill Baker Presents... will also be offering up George Perez: The Best of All Worlds sometime this year.
