Overview: An Introduction to Freshmen
Freshmen is a six-issue limited series from Top Cow Productions. Co-created by Seth Green and Hugh Sterbakov, written by Hugh Sterbakov, drawn by Leonard Kirk, with covers by Rodolfo Migliari. This is a comedy superhero comic-- imagine "American Pie" meets "X-Men." Freshmen will be available in comic stores beginning in July. The Top Cow Triple Play, featuring a preview of Freshmen along with Top Cow's other upcoming releases, V.I.C.E. and Necromancer, is coming in June. Both available in comic book stores nationwide.

Hugh Sterbakov follows in the footsteps of Geoff Johns and Allan Heinberg, that of comic book fan turned comic book pro. Coming from a background in Hollywood screenwriting and a love for Spider-Man that no long box can hold, he is now getting geared up for his freshman work, the release of his first comic book called, ironically enough, The Freshmen.

CF: So you get the call for you to write your dream comic book. What title would it be and who would be doing the art?
HS: Holy Cow... what a great question.
There's only one answer for me. I could skirt the issue and compliment a lot of characters and artists, and I wouldn't be lying. But the only true answer is Amazing Spider-Man with John Romita Sr. That run-- that's what comic books are to me. :)
That's the big leagues, that's Yankee Stadium. :)
I'm hoping to carve my own path, though. I'm looking to do character-driven stories that aren't mind-bogglingly complex with 20 characters that all look alike, y'know? Make each character real, with a soul and a heart and a purpose. Make the readers care about them-- heck, make myself care about them. And then hopefully some day I get to the point where I can get a kid to like my stuff as much as I loved Stan Lee and John Romita Sr's work. Then make him or her a big enough comic book fan to break into the biz themselves. Just keep the circle going, feed this great medium.
I'm really hoping it starts here. We're pulling out all the bells and whistles to get people to look at the book. We're in Top Cow's June Preview book. We're actually going to run the last 8 pages of the second issue, which is where the kids go into action for the first time as a super team. And in addition to Rodolfo Migliari on the covers for all six issues, we have chase covers for #1 by George Perez (another comic book God-- how can I believe the guy who drew Crisis on Infinite Earths is drawing my characters!!!) and Joseph Michael Linsner, whose experience on Cry for Dawn is going to make people take a second and third look at The Seductress. This is a chunky girl who thinks she needs her powers to ever make a guy love her-- which is really sad, and great story fodder-- but when you see him draw her, you'll realize how wrong she is.
