DC'S TOYMASTER: GEORG BREWER ON DC DIRECT

If you have any kind of nodding acquaintance with the extensive line of figures, statues and props produced by DC Direct, then you've probably heard of Georg Brewer. Georg is a DC V.P. and one of the driving forces behind the lines. He's a frequent presence at conventions and shows, and he has a fan's love for the characters. As excited as the fans themselves get about cool new announcements, you can tell that Georg often shares that same level of enthusiasm.
Recently, DC Direct made some announcements concerning some difficulties associated with the first assortment of Crisis of Infinite Earths figures that shipped near the end of the summer. Additionally, several other assortments have been rescheduled, including the much-anticipated first Identity Crisis assortment and the Batman: Long Halloween set. We asked Georg to provide the fans and readers with some clarification on these points, and then went into topics like the two Golden Age Atoms and what '07 might hold.
Newsarama: DC Direct recently announced that the first assortment of Crisis on Infinite Earths figures has been made returnable. Could you please describe why, and what that means exactly for the curious fans?
Georg Brewer: In the regular course of production, we had no problems with the quality of the figure. However, when the product reached the stores, we heard numerous complaints. We froze the remaining inventory, and inspected the pieces in the warehouse as well as doing store checks. Clearly this product was not up to our high quality standards, and as we had several more lines planned we knew we wanted to do something to restore both retailer and consumer confidence. To that end, we developed the refund program, as well as the re-issue of the figures from a reliable vendor. The fans have long waited to get some of these figures, so we felt it was important that they have the opportunity.

DC Direct is inviting retailers and consumers to return CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS SERIES 1 ACTION FIGURES due to quality control problems with the collection.
Retailers can return the figures from November 23 through December 21 via Diamond Comic Distributors for a full refund plus a $5 credit to cover shipping.
"We always have our retailers and consumers first in mind and, as soon as these figures arrived, we realized that they did not meet DC Direct's standards," says Senior VP — Brand Management Cheryl Rubin. "Along with the credits we're offering retailers, we are also in the midst of a brand—new production run (to be released in mid—2006) that will live up to the high quality level DC Direct is known for." Some are of the 2nd wave CRISIS figures.
Then there are a couple of the giant 10x15 foot banner hanging at Upper Deck's VS. game card booth. The employees I spoke with didn't know what it was from, but said that there was a JLA Booster set of VS. cards coming out Nov. 2005, so it seems likely for that...
