COMIC BOOK MARKETPLACE: GEORGE PEREZ PACK
(Apr 2004)

The unexpurgated interview from Comic Book Marketplace...
Part 1
Part 2
|
|
(Vu: I did mention about the interviews being online in July 2003, but since not a lot of people saw this it deserved a second mention. The interview, by Bill Baker, is quite long, and is unedited.)

From Vu
I heard the best Superhero song:
"Ode To A Superhero" by Al Yankovic. It's sung to "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, and it pretty much sums up the Spider-Man movie, especially the part about William Defoe looking scarier without the Goblin mask. Heheh.
As you know, according to "The Best of All Worlds: George Perez" published in
COMIC BOOK MARKETPLACE #86, #89, #90 and #94, George Pérez likes to listen to "Weird" Al when he draws.
You can read part one and two the interview on Bill Baker's website, www.hypethis.com.

CBM #94 Excerpt |
|
From Vu
I have already read the side bars last year, so what I remember was that each creator interviewed (Marv Wolfman, Jim Shooter, and Kurt Busiek) all have wonderful things to say about George. Look for the entire side bar to be online at Hypethis.com.
Also, read an excerpt with Marv Wolfman regarding "Games" at the Titans Messageboard, posted by CEO.
>>>
CBM: What makes George the perfect artist for the JLA/Avengers project?
Busiek: Well, first off, George is the quintessential big-team superhero
artist, so right there he'd have dibs on it, even if he wasn't one of the
top artists to have drawn either team, and had well-remembered runs on both.
But the enthusiasm, energy and skill he brings to such a big project are
what really does it. Everybody looks good, everybody looks right, the teams
both feel like they ought to and the storytelling and spectacle are
over-the-top great. What more could you ask for?
CBM: Any final thoughts on George Perez the artist and, perhaps more
importantly, the man?
Busiek: George is one of the most tireless and giving guys I know --
knocking himself out doing con sketches for charity, supporting the CBLDF
and more. His good humor is infectious, and wherever he is, he lights up
the room -- his personality's as loud and as cheerful as his shirts.
I've never known him to do anything -- as an artist or as a person -- less
than 110%.

CBM #94 Printed
Sat, 5 Oct 2002 17:48:13 -0400
Thought you and your web readers would like to know that the three missing sidebars from the George Perez interview have, indeed, seen print in CBM #94.
I'll be posting those on the www.hypethis.com website very soon.
The issue came out nicely, and has a real nice cover feature on the various incarnations of the Spectre, as well as two interviews I did with Blackjack creator and current Tarzan comic strip writer Alex Simmons.
(Vu: The FINAL part of the "Best of All Worlds" interview is finally concluded. Part One originally published in November 2001, it only took a year, folks. Anyway, what this usually means is that CBM #94 will be available to comic stores next Wednesday, which is Oct 9th.)

CBM #96 Error |
|
From Ilke Hincer
From the Weekly News section at diamondcomics.com - the July 22nd edition, found in the Consumer News Archive, says the following (under Product Updates):
Product Updates
New information on products since Previews was released.
PRODUCT UPDATES for Items in the AUGUST PREVIEWS
MAGAZINES
• On page 348 of the August Previews, an ad for Comic Book Marketplace #96 erroneously notes that the book will contain covers and articles featuring the Spectre and Green Lantern. In fact, issue #96 is a resolicitation of an issue originally offered in the June Previews containing covers by, and articles about, Milton Caniff (AUG022418, $5.95) and Marc Hempel (AUG022419, $5.95). The issue will also contain eight extra color pages at no additional cost.

CBM #96 (or #94?) |
|
From PREVIEWS v. 12, #8 (Aug 2002)
[ Please read CBM #96 Error first ]
(Vu: CBM ran the exact same advertisment as CBM #94 (which originally apppeared in PREVIEWS v.12, #4), only they listed this as #96. The only thing difference is that they have that "Special Notice For Readers", which I've transcribed below. My suspicion is that they mean #94, as that issue was originally solicited as a "July Release". In either case, don't expect CBM to ship on time, they have always shipped their books months, and months, and, yes, months, behind their projected release date. So if they are saying an October release, they actually mean December, or later.)
SPECIAL NOTICE FOR READERS: Due to [an] addition of 8 extra new pages of color at no extra charge (now we've got 16 pages of color!) and the resulting change in cover dates for Comic Book Marketplace, we're re-soliciting CBM #96. All previous orders for this issue are canceled. Please order using the new codes. Be sure to let your retailer know you want this issue!

CBM #94 Delayed |

From Vu
Steven Berry tells me the Spectre cover for COMIC BOOK MARKETPLACE #94 is by Frank Brunner. The other cover, looked like it is painted by John Mueller (who did Oink and Swamp Thing), but I'm probably wrong. [The Green Lantern cover is by John K. Snyder III].
From Vu
Looks like from the words "wrap-up" that this issue will contain the final Bill Baker's Pérez interview.
This is from an advertisment from PREVIEWS #4 (vol 12).
THE SPECTRE
Writer Rob Hughes explores Jerry Siegel's and Bernard Baily's creation in "THe Avenger of Blood", a fantastic look into the power of The Spectre.
