The unexpurgated interview from Comic Book Marketplace...
Part 1
Part 2

(Vu: I did mention about the interviews being online in July 2003, but since not a lot of people saw this it deserved a second mention. The interview, by Bill Baker, is quite long, and is unedited.)

From Vu
I heard the best Superhero song:
"Ode To A Superhero" by Al Yankovic. It's sung to "Piano Man" by Billy Joel, and it pretty much sums up the Spider-Man movie, especially the part about William Defoe looking scarier without the Goblin mask. Heheh.
As you know, according to "The Best of All Worlds: George Perez" published in
COMIC BOOK MARKETPLACE #86, #89, #90 and #94, George Pérez likes to listen to "Weird" Al when he draws.
You can read part one and two the interview on Bill Baker's website, www.hypethis.com.

THE BEST OF ALL WORLDS
part three of three
by Bill Baker
…We're taking a look at his work on Wonder Woman, the first regular title on which he also served as writer, and we finish by looking at the creative process and his art itself.
(excerpt)
CBM: About how long does it take you to draw a typical page?
Pérez: It varies, depending on the page. When I started out, since I was basically faking everything, I used to be able to do three, three and a half pages a day. Now, I do one comfortably, and it's a fully penciled page. I can do two, but it's just layout pencils. Layout, as defined by me, [means that] basically I don't use as much ruler action. I've found that as I've gotten older, and become more dedicated to making things right, I have slowed down immensely. So one page a day is best for getting the best Pérez work out.
CBM: What about covers?
Pérez: Covers take about three days, on average, because the thinking that's involved in designing it has a totally different intent. It's not meant to tell a story; it's meant to impact the reader. To give them the gist of the story, or just a symbolic representation of an action. The covers take me about a day to design, and then I usually lay it out with blue pencil, then another day to go and tighten it with regular pencil. And I tend to draw, pencil, very tight, even if I'm going to be inking it myself, because I prefer correcting mistakes with an eraser rather than whiteout. And there [are times] you are very close to a drawing, and you really don't see a mistake until it's almost too late. By penciling it in detail, and by separating it by at least a day between the penciling and before I start inking, it gives me one last chance to see it with fresh eyes and spot any mistakes before I commit to ink.
