As an editor for Comico, DC, and Dark Horse he worked with some of the top talent in the business on some of the most popular titles. In the toy world, he wrote the authoritative volume on Captain Action, Captain Action: The Original Super-Hero Action Figure.

Scoop: You've had some great covers so far. How do you pick what's going to be your cover feature?
Michael Eury: I choose a marketable image that represents the theme at hand. We've had George Pérez, Adam Hughes, Brian Bolland, and John Byrne on our first four covers. #5's "Hollywood in Comics," I'm pleased to announce here, features a flip cover: Alex Ross and Adam Hughes offering their renditions of Lynda Carter as Wonder Woman! Yowza!! I'm keeping issue #6's cover a secret for now, but issue #7 will feature an unpublished Curt Swan illo inked by a very special embellisher.

"For four years I've been employed as the communications director for an Oregon organization, but this year I'm inching my way back into the periphery of comics: through the publication of my books Captain Action: The Original Super-Hero Action Figure and the forthcoming biography Dick Giordano: Changing Comics, One Day at a Time, and by editing TwoMorrows' new magazine, Back Issue, which premieres this fall," Michael Eury said. "I've got a few other things in the works. I plan to keep my day job, however, which I also enjoy. Being this busy keeps me motivated and disciplined."

COMIC BOOK ARTIST #25, which is the last issue published under TwoMorrows was released to comic book store yesterday. Reliable sources tells us that BACK ISSUE #1 will replace CBA. Meanwhile, Comic Book Artist is now being published by Top Shelf Production, with color!

Got a postcard recently, announcing COMIC BOOK ARTIST is finally shifting to Top Shelf Productions with a new #1/Neal Adams-Alex Ross special issue, but the second-to-last issue from
TwoMorrows, COMIC BOOK ARTIST #24 ($6.95) is a great examination of the heyday of NATIONAL LAMPOON. If there was ever a newsstand magazine that trod a fine line between "straight" comics and the underground, NATLAMP was it, and they used a lot of comics material by Neal Adams, Barry Windsor-Smith, Gray Morrow, Russ Heath, Bernie Wrightson, Frank Frazetta and many others. Included in this issue are interviews with Neal, Gahan Wilson, Frank Springer, MK Brown, Ed Subitsky, Mark Bodé, and an extended interview with the heart and soul of the early NATLAMP, Michael Gross. All entertaining as hell. I'd forgotten just how good NATLAMP could be, and COMIC BOOK ARTIST, as a tribute to all aspects of our medium, remains pretty damn good as well.

Back Issues in “Back Issue”

Michael Eury who wrote the fantastic Captain Action book from TwoMorrows and who was profiled not long ago by Scoop is hard at work on a new magazine, Back Issue. The theme of the first issue is "DC vs. Marvel" and the theme for its letter column is why readers preferred one company over the other in the '70s and '80s.
The question posed by Michael is, "In the 1970s and/or 1980s, did you proclaim "DC's for me!" or "Make Mine Marvel!" and why?
Both companies released tons of innovative series during the '70s and '80s and Back Issue wants to know what your preferences are so email Michael your comments at euryman@msn.com by June 5, 2003.
*Note: Michael asks that all comments pertain to the '70s and '80s and NOT the Silver Age.
(Vu: This is a little dated, but I only found out about Pérez's involvement with BACK ISSUE #1 just recently. It's probably never too late to send in your preference for the magazine, so I'd probably write to Michael your ideas.)

Sources say that TwoMorrows will be starting a new monthly magazine, edited by Michael Eury, to replace Comic Book Artist. The first issue this fall will reportedly have a Perez cover, and a planned interview between George Perez, Marv Wolfman, and Andy Mangels. There will also be material in the issue about the original JLA/Avengers book. More news as it becomes available.
