I'd like to share with you this new JLA/Avengers artwork. Highlighted this time are Sorcerers, Witches, Magicians, Gods, Demons, Celestials and other heroes whose powers are supernatural in nature.

If you think the human chain concept seems familiar, then you're right. I based it on the mystical/cosmic battles in the issues of Crisis On Infinite Earths # 10, Avengers # 3 volume 3 and Marvel Two In One # 58. All of which were pencilled by George Perez himself.

The warriors who're standing guard with weapons raised are, by the way, my idea.

    Hope you like it!

Here's the scan of third issue of Avengers drawn by George.

The second issue flew off the shelf even before I went to get it.

I'm lucky to get my hands on this one at least.

    THE KURT BUSIEK AVENGERS INTERVIEW
--A WONDER MAN: COOLER THAN SUPERMAN EXCLUSIVE--
    INTERVIEWER: MIKE McDERMOTT

    (excerpt)

This interview was conducted by Mike McDermott by e-mail on September 2002 from a series of questions submitted by a group of the Wonder Man: Cooler than Superman contributors including himself.

3- What was the idea behind the ionic look?
It was to give him a new and striking look. Originally, I'd designed that "bleeding energy" look for a proposal for CAPTAIN MARVEL 2099, which didn't go anywhere. But I liked the look, and thought it would work well for Simon, so I showed it to George. He liked it, and adapted it into his own version, which looked pretty darn spiffy.

    ...

46-Do you think Perez would ever be interested in a Wondy solo series? In writing the Avengers?
You'd have to ask George. But he was offered the writing gig on AVENGERS, and chose just to draw it instead, because he's not familiar enough with the present-day Marvel Universe to juggle it all. That's how I wound up with the job.

47-Don't you think of all the Avengers, Wonder Man is the one George Perez had more creative input with?
I don't know. He designed a number of costumes for him, but I have no idea how much plot input he had when working with Englehart, Conway, Shooter, Michelinie and others.

48-How was it to work with George Perez? Alan Davis? How does it compares?
Both were great -- I had a lot more communication with George, but the work was just wonderful in both cases, and a treat to script.
